James graduated the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2021, obtaining a Masters in Classical Guitar Performance. James studied with Prof. Allan Neave and also received tuition from Dr Sasha Savaloni. He has enjoyed lessons with leading guitarists such as associate artist, Paul Galbraith (U.K.). Visiting lectures with Steve Goss (U.K.), Lukasz Kuropaczewski (Poland), Lorenzo Micheli (Italy), Meng Su (China) and Otto Tolonen (Finland).
During his studies, he performed widely both as a soloist and within chamber ensembles. An advocate for new music, James has been a regular performer of new compositions for guitar. His ensemble highlights include new music premiers at the PLUG festival, performances within guitar quartet and guitar ensemble as well as forming a trio consisting of harp, guitar and mandolin.
James is an advocate for teaching and currently teaches both privately and within independent schools. As an artist for Live Music Now Scotland, he performs regularly as a soloist in venues across Scotland. James plays a guitar built by Michael Gee and performs with strings by Savarez.
