In honour of the Bard

Welcome to this special carillon recital, performed by Dr Ian Cassells on the magnificent Bells of St John’s Kirk, Perth. This recital is dedicated to the memory and legacy of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns, whose poetry and songs continue to resonate across generations.

Burns was deeply inspired by the traditional Scottish airs of his time, many of which he collected, adapted, and immortalized in verse. This evening, we celebrate those melodies, as their rich and timeless beauty is brought to life on the carillon. From stirring ballads to heartfelt laments, these tunes provided the foundation for some of Burns’ most beloved works.

As the bells ring out across Perth, may their music evoke the spirit of Burns—his love of Scotland, its people, and its heritage. We invite you to listen, reflect, and enjoy this tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest literary figures.
